ARCH Vessel - Black

Objects tell stories. Stories of place and time, materials and process.

These Arch Vessels were first developed as part of a broader body of work which explored the story of Tasmania’s industrial heritage. Specifically, our pioneering Hydro-Electric schemes. The stories are marked with incredible tenacity, optimism, toil and controversy. As with most stories, they are written and read from different vantage points. While mostly told as great achievements of industrialisation and progress, there was a quieter and darker side to the creation of these formidable masses of concrete. Stories of immigrant labour, relentless toil, the subjugation of the natural world in the name of human progress.

In the quietness of their material, form, and shade, these vessels tell something of those stories.
